Sindh governor rejects Police Reforms’ Act

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Imran Ismail on Thursday rejected Police Reforms Act after raising a number of objection over its amendments, ARY News reported. According to sources, the Sindh governor stated in his objection to the provincial government, “It cannot be called a bill due to the series of amendments [in laws]. The provincial government has eliminated 80 Section out of 190 in the Reforms’ Act.” The governor suggested the provincial government to prefer formulating a new bill instead of amending the older regulations. Governor Ismail stated, “The amended bill has almost ended all authorities of Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police as the role of police chief will remain like a postman.” It emerged that the amended bill will confine IG to post or transfer any of the police officers and the provincial government would be fully authorised to remove the police chief. President Alvi directs info ministry to project soft image of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi here on Thursday directed the ministry of information to broaden its mandate to counter anti-state propaganda and project a soft image of the country on cyber space. Presiding over a high-level meeting on social media, President Alvi said that social media was the harbinger of social change and had easy and vast outreach among the masses. Modern centre to be established in PIMH for dementia patients: Dr. Yasmin

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Health Dr. Yasmin Rashid here on Thursday announced that the provincial government would establish a state-of-the-art center in Punjab Institute of Mental Health (PIMH) for dementia patients.   Presiding over a high-level meeting at Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department, Dr. Yasmin directed to constitute a special committee for providing proper care to the patients of dementia. According to a statement issued by the Punjab Directorate General Public Relations, the minister said, “Dementia patients will be properly registered in all the public sector hospitals of the Punjab.” She said that vacant posts of neurologists and psychologists in the public sector hospitals would soon be filled. PM Imran Khan lands in Saudi Arabia for OIC summit, visits Roza e Rasool (PBUH)

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived in Medina for a three-day visit on Thursday to attend the 14th Summit of Origination of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which will be held in Makkah on May 31, ARY News reported. Khan  will pay his respects on the Roza-e-Rasool (Peace Be Upon Him) and offer Nawafil on the sacred place of worship after which he will depart for Jeddah to attend the Islamic Summit meeting. Private schools cannot charge more than one month fee: Punjab minister

LAHORE: Restraining the private schools from charging two months fee for summer vacations, Punjab Minister for School Education Murad Raas here on Thursday said that no school was allowed to charge more than one month fee for the vacation in the province. Murad Raas asked the parents to lodge their complaints about school fee to the concerned CEO of the education department. He directed the CEOs to take strict and swift action over the complaints.
