Traders of tires protest against alleged raid of Customs in Karachi

KARACHI: The traders of tires staged a protest demonstration at the University Road near Old Sabzi Mandi over the alleged raid of Customs on Sunday, ARY News reported. The protesting traders blocked both the tracks of the University Roads. A massive traffic jam was reported in the area. The traders of tires alleged that two of the shopkeepers were injured in an alleged raid of the Customs. Meanwhile, the sources within Customs said that the raid was conducted over the information on the presence of the smuggled tires in the market. The raid was conducted after fulfillment of all the legal requirements, the sources said. On the other hand, the local police of the area stated that they were not informed about the raid by the Customs authorities. We are investigating the matter and a case would be registered on the complaint of the traders, the police authorities said. Pakistani singer Jawad Ahmad tests positive for coronavirus

Car transformed into flying vehicle ‘in less than three minutes’

A company, Klein Vision, has managed to transform a car into an aeroplane in Slovakia after 30 years of research and development on a prototype, called ‘AirCar’. The company run by Professor Stefan Klein made the announcement for the completion of successful test flights of the two-seat AirCar that weighs 1,100 kg and can carry an additional load of 200 kg. Klein Vision released some impressive footage of the test flights of the fifth generation of the product. Interestingly, the company wrote on Youtube about the futuristic car, “The latest generation of flying car developed by KleinVision company transforms from road vehicle into air vehicle in less than 3-minutes,” The video showed that AirCar while barreling down the road before transforming into a plane and taking to the skies. Coronavirus kills 17 Pakistanis, infects 977 in last 24 hours

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reported 17 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus, taking the nationwide tally of fatalities to 6,823, ARY News reported on Sunday. According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 977 fresh infections emerged during this period, lifting the national tally of cases to 333,970. Around 27,655 samples were tested during last 24 hours across the country. There are a total of 12,592 active cases of the coronavirus as 314,555 patients have so far recuperated from the disease. Fuel prices for November announced in Oman

MUSCAT: Fuel prices for November have been announced by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals Oman on Saturday, according to Times of Oman. An official from the Ministry of Energy and Minerals confirmed to Times of Oman that the fuel prices for November 2020 as below: M95 at 194 baisa per litre, the price of M91 has been fixed at 183 baisa per litre while the new rate of Diesel will be 209 baisa per litre It may be noted that the fuel prices in October were: M95 at 194 baisa per litre, M91 at 183 baisa per litre and the Diesel at 209 baisa per litre. US signs up pharmacy chains as COVID-19 vaccination centres: report

Several US retail pharmacy chains have agreed to serve as COVID-19 vaccination sites under a federal government plan, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday. A plan by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showed companies who have agreed to participate include Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc, CVS Health Corp, Walmart Inc, Kroger Co and Costco Wholesale Corp, the report here said. The government would provide the vaccines to the pharmacies free of charge, the Wall Street Journal report said, to help expand and accelerate the public’s access to vaccines as supplies increase. The pharmacies would be involved in the second phase of the planned vaccine rollout in the United States, the report said, with the first phase targeted at healthcare workers and others at high risk of infection. PIDA extends date for island development environment studies

KARACHI: The federal government has move ahead with regard to its decisions on Sindh’s islands and it seems the resolutions of Sindh and Balochistan assemblies on the matter having no impact on the matter, ARY News reported. Karachi: Coast Guards rescue boat passengers stranded in sea

KARACHI: The Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) in an operation rescued nine passengers and crew of a boat stranded off Kaemari, ARY News reported on Saturday. The Coast Guards Marine Wing conducted a rescue operation in sea and saved nine passengers of a fishing boat, Al-Daniyal, a spokesperson said. The boat was stranded in the sea after its engine failed and the vessel could likely to capsize in the sea, PCG spokesperson said. Prices of petroleum products likely to go down by up to Rs2

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Saturday recommended up to Rs2 decrease in prices of petroleum products for the month of November, reported ARY News. The authority forwarded a summary in this regard to the Ministry of Finance for approval. According to the details disclosed by the summary, the OGRA has recommended a Rs1.50 cut in the per litre price of petrol and Rs2 in the price of high-speed diesel (HSD). The finance ministry will announce new fuel prices for November after Prime Minister Imran Khan’s approval. Authorities said the government may keep the prices of petroleum products unchanged by increasing petroleum levy. On September 30, the government had cut the price of high-speed diesel by Rs2.40 per litre and kept that of petrol and other petroleum products unchanged for a fortnight with effect from October 1. PESHAWAR: A senior medic died after being diagnosed with the novel coronavirus in Peshawar. The Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) confirmed the news. Dr Sultan Zeb was being treated at Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar and was on a ventilator. He was shifted to the hospital after his health deteriorated earlier this week. WATCH: 5-storey building ‘walks’ to new location

People in Shanghai’s Huangpu district were earlier this month amazed by an unusual sight: a “walking” five-storey building. The 85-year-old Lagena Primary School was lifted off the ground and relocated using a newly developed “walking machine,” which is composed of nearly 200 mobile supports developed by Shanghai Evolution Shift. The technology is aimed to help move large buildings as part of efforts to preserve the city’s historic structures. Lan Wuji, chief technical supervisor of the project, said the supports act as robotic legs that emulate the way human legs move.  “It’s like giving the building crutches so it can stand up and then walk,” he said. IZMIR, Turkey: Nineteen people were killed in Turkey and Greece after a strong earthquake struck the Aegean Sea on Friday, bringing buildings crashing down and setting off tidal waves which slammed into coastal areas and islands. People ran onto streets in panic in the Turkish city of Izmir, witnesses said, after the quake struck with a magnitude of up to 7.0. Neighbourhoods were deluged with surging seawater which swept debris inland and left fish stranded as it receded. Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) said 17 people died, one due to drowning, while 709 people were injured. WATCH: ‘Flying car’ takes first test flight

A vehicle has been developed in Slovakia which can transform itself from a car to an actual airplane within three minutes. The vehicle, named Air Car, took its first test flight of late, flying 1500 feet in the air. A Slovak company, called Klein Vision, posted a video showing a futuristic-looking white car being driven down the runway. It pulls up after some time and its wings start to come out from the vehicle. Then it takes off and soars into the air. This invention was the brainchild of Professor Stefan Klein. The car is a two-seater and weighs about 2,425 pounds (1099 kg) and can carry around 440 pounds (200 kg) of additional load. The vehicle needs a special runway that is around 984 ft for hassle-free take-off and landing. A famous BOEING expert, Dr Branko Sarh, said the ‘Air Car’ has excellent features and is extremely spacious inside the cockpit as well. Sindh reports 237 more COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours: Murad Ali Shah

KARACHI: As many as 237 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported in Sindh province on Friday during the last 24 hours, bringing the tally of the virus cases in one of the most affected province of the country to 145,475 cases, ARY NEWS reported quoting Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. “Five people also lost their lives owing to COVID-19,” the chief minister said during a routine daily briefing on the virus as the overall death toll in the province has reached upto 2,625. He further said that 82 people have recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours, bring the total recoveries to 138,428. Murad Ali Shah said that currently there are 4,422 active virus patients in the province of which 180 patients are in critical condition while 30 have been put on ventilators. WASHINGTON: The group of Russian hackers accused of meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election earlier this year targeted the email accounts of Democratic state parties in California and Indiana, and influential think tanks in Washington and New York, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
