FM Qureshi to represent Pakistan at signing of US-Taliban peace treaty today

QATAR: Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi will attend the signing ceremony of peace agreement between the United States and Afghan Taliban as representative of Pakistan in Doha today (Saturday).

Representatives from fifty countries, including foreign ministers of different countries, will attend the signing ceremony of the agreement.

Meanwhile, talking to Pakistani community in Qatar, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said peace agreement between the United States and Afghan Taliban will open new avenues of development in the region.

He said peace in Afghanistan will open up our links with Central Asia.

FM Qureshi said with peace and stability, there will be numerous opportunities for promoting bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

He said peace in Afghanistan will enable Pakistan to benefit from the CASA 1000 power project and overcome the energy crisis in the country.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Pakistan has paid a heavy price for peace by sacrificing lives of our security forces, police and civilians.

Earlier on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi addressing a press conference alongside US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced that he would be present at the US-Taliban peace treaty deal signing ceremony in Doha, Qatar.

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court in Islamabad on Wednesday resumed the hearing of a reference filed against former finance minister Ishaq Dar by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for allegedly accumulating assets beyond his known sources of income.  Judge Muhammad Bashir is recording the statement of a prosecution witness, Ishtiaq Ahmed. Qatar to hike minimum wage ‘by end of year’

DOHA: Qatar could increase the minimum wage for migrant workers by the end of 2018, unions predicted on Monday, as the 2022 World Cup host seeks to push through labour reforms. It would be the first change to the monthly wage since its introduction by the gas-rich Gulf state last November. “By the end of the year we expect a new minimum wage to be set, that’s good news,” said Sharan Burrow, general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation. Burrow did not name a figure but said the new wage would be calculated by assessing a “basket of goods”. She was speaking after meeting Qatar’s labour minister, Issa al-Jufali al-Nuaimi, and other government officials in Doha over the past two days.
