KARACHI: At least 13 people, including two women and a minor girl, were wounded in aerial firing during New Year celebrations in Karachi, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

According to rescue sources, 13 persons sustained injuries when some citizens resorted to aerial firing to welcome the new year of 2020 in different parts of the metropolis.

The injured were shifted to different Jinnah, Abbasi Shaheed and Murshid hospitals of the city for treatment.

Pakistan and rest of the world welcomed the arrival of New Year 2020 with new hopes, wishes, and ambitions.

Bahria Town Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad had organized a splendid show of fireworks. ARY News also extended its viewers New Year greetings.

The moment when the clock struck 12, everybody was on their feet as celebrations started and fireworks show across most of the cities made the atmosphere lively everywhere.

In a surprise move for the residents of the biggest city of the country, the Sindh government had withdrawn the notification banning pillion-riding.

Accountability court hears assets case against Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court in Islamabad on Wednesday resumed the hearing of a reference filed against former finance minister Ishaq Dar by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for allegedly accumulating assets beyond his known sources of income. Qatar to hike minimum wage ‘by end of year’

DOHA: Qatar could increase the minimum wage for migrant workers by the end of 2018, unions predicted on Monday, as the 2022 World Cup host seeks to push through labour reforms. It would be the first change to the monthly wage since its introduction by the gas-rich Gulf state last November. “By the end of the year we expect a new minimum wage to be set, that’s good news,” said Sharan Burrow, general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation. Burrow did not name a figure but said the new wage would be calculated by assessing a “basket of goods”. She was speaking after meeting Qatar’s labour minister, Issa al-Jufali al-Nuaimi, and other government officials in Doha over the past two days. The minimum wage was set at 750 riyals a month ($206, 170 euro) on its introduction. In addition to the salary, labourers receive free accommodation, food and healthcare plans, covered by employers.
