PM Imran Khan departs for Gilgit to attend Independence day parade

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan departed for Gilgit where he will attend the Azadi Parade ceremony marking the independence day of the region from Dogra Raj, ARY News reported on Friday.

The Prime Minister will lay a floral wreathe at the monument of martyrs after attending the parade.

The Governor and Chief Minister of Gilgit Baltistan and cabinet members are also scheduled to hold meetings with the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister Imran Khan will also inaugurate various development schemes, projects and address a public gathering.

The 72nd independence day of Gilgit will be celebrated in Gilgit-Baltistan with traditional zeal and fervor today (Friday).

The day is being celebrated to pay tributes to those heroes of liberation war and Gilgit scouts who revolted against Dogra rule on 1st November 1947.

Political, social and literary circles have finalized programs to celebrated the day in a befitting manner, Radio Pakistan reported.

A ceremony in this regard will be held at Helipad ground in Gilgit at 9 am.

Besides, a grand function will also be held in Aga Khan Shahi polo ground in Gilgit after today Friday prayer.

Qatar to hike minimum wage ‘by end of year’

DOHA: Qatar could increase the minimum wage for migrant workers by the end of 2018, unions predicted on Monday, as the 2022 World Cup host seeks to push through labour reforms. It would be the first change to the monthly wage since its introduction by the gas-rich Gulf state last November. “By the end of the year we expect a new minimum wage to be set, that’s good news,” said Sharan Burrow, general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation. Burrow did not name a figure but said the new wage would be calculated by assessing a “basket of goods”. She was speaking after meeting Qatar’s labour minister, Issa al-Jufali al-Nuaimi, and other government officials in Doha over the past two days. The minimum wage was set at 750 riyals a month ($206, 170 euro) on its introduction. In addition to the salary, labourers receive free accommodation, food and healthcare plans, covered by employers.
