Section 144 imposed around SSC examination centres in Karachi

KARACHI: In a bid to discourage use of unfair means in the matriculation examination, the provincial government imposed section 144 around the examination centers in Karachi.

According to a notification issued by the Sindh’s home department, station house officers (SHOs) of the concerned police station were authorized to register complaints of unfair means and take action over violation of section 144 around the examination centers.

Examination’s code of conduct will be implemented strictly during the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations-2019, reads the notification.

Board of Secondary Education Karachi’s (BSEK) Chairman Dr. Saeeduddin on Sunday said that all the photocopy shops around the examination centres to remain closed during examination.

He said that total 0.36mn students will appear in the matriculation examination this year and added that the board set up 365 examination centres, including 202 private schools and 163 public schools, in the metropolis city.

Earlier, Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, on March 22, had announced to postpone matriculation examinations across the province.

Addressing a protest demonstration by All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) and lower staff members at Karachi Press Club, Syed Sardar Ali Shah had said that the examinations were postponed due to their strike as the matric boards could not complete their preparations.

He had said that now the matriculation examinations would start from April 1 across the province. The minister had assured the protesters that the no controlling authority was being established in the education department.

India’s coronavirus cases rise by a daily record of 55,078

BENGALURU: India reported another record surge in daily COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the total to 1.64 million, as the government further eases virus curbs in a bid to resuscitate the economy, while also trying to increase testing. Infections jumped by 55,078 in the past 24 hours, while the death toll rose by 779 to 35,747, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on its website. The ministry also said it aimed to raise the country’s capacity to 1 million coronavirus tests per day in the medium term, from a record 600,000 on Friday. The federal government this week announced the reopening of yoga institutes and gymnasiums, and removed restrictions on the movement of people and goods.
