FBR extends deadline for filing of income tax returns by April 30

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing of income tax returns and statements for the tax year 2018 till April 30.

According to the details, FBR has taken this decision in view of numerous representations by various trade bodies and organizations along with other taxpayers seeking extension in the date of filing of returns for Tax Year 2018.

FBR urged citizens, who had not yet filed their returns, to take advantage of this opportunity.

FBR has extensive plans to pursue and legally proceed against those persons who are liable to file returns but do not file it by this extended date.

Meanwhile, FBR has crossed the mark of 18,00,000 income tax filers for tax year 2018 for the first time in its history. The institution is also geared to act against those guilty of not fulfilling their tax obligations.

Earlier, in a country-wide crackdown against tax defaulters, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had arrested nine people besides seizing their properties and vehicles on March 18.

According to details, the FBR had also froze 4,000 bank accounts in its operation, which was launched three months ago, against all defaulters.

A total of nine people had been nabbed from across Pakistan, meanwhile, 78 properties and 46 vehicles had been confiscated by the FBR team.

India’s coronavirus cases rise by a daily record of 55,078

BENGALURU: India reported another record surge in daily COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the total to 1.64 million, as the government further eases virus curbs in a bid to resuscitate the economy, while also trying to increase testing. Infections jumped by 55,078 in the past 24 hours, while the death toll rose by 779 to 35,747, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on its website. The ministry also said it aimed to raise the country’s capacity to 1 million coronavirus tests per day in the medium term, from a record 600,000 on Friday. The federal government this week announced the reopening of yoga institutes and gymnasiums, and removed restrictions on the movement of people and goods.
