President Arif Alvi to inaugurate Dhabeji Express today

KARACHI: President Dr Arif Alvi to inaugurate Dhabeji Express, on the route between Karachi’s City Station and Dabheji in Thatta district on Wednesday (today).

Minister for Railways, Sheikh Rashid said that Dhabeji Express is a gift from Prime Minister for the people of Karachi.

“Going to China tomorrow, railways has key role in China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), government wants to facilitate labourers to travel home on time without being forced to sit on bus rooftops, maintained Rashid.

The minister vowed for the revival of Railways, adding that employees of the department will be promoted to ‘A’ grade.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, the minister announced that the citizens will travel by the new train for free on 1st of Nov.

He said the federal government is ready to provide all required facilities for revival of Karachi Circular Railway project.  Five more trains will be launched in Sindh in the first 100 days of the present government, he added.

He said the government plans to launch the Rehman Baba Expresses from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Karachi for the poor. The train will operate on the main ML-1 line as Khushhal Khan Express is not in a good condition and the department always remains concerned about it.

This is the launch of sixth train within merely 60 days of the new government. The government is committed to fulfill the promise of bringing 10 new trains in its 100 days.

In the next phase, the Federal Minister vowed to introduce a shuttle train service between Karachi and Hyderabad.

On October 16, Rashid inaugurated two new passenger trains – the Mohenjo-Daro and Rohi Express.

The Mohenjo Daro passenger train runs between Sukkur and Kotri via Larkana route while Rohi Express chugs from Rohri to Khanpur.

Last month, Prime Minister Imran Khan had inaugurated two new trains in a ceremony at Prime Minister Secretariat.

The PM also vowed to bring the latest technology to the department, which will facilitate thousands of passengers everyday.

Accountability court hears assets case against Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court in Islamabad on Wednesday resumed the hearing of a reference filed against former finance minister Ishaq Dar by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for allegedly accumulating assets beyond his known sources of income.  Judge Muhammad Bashir is recording the statement of a prosecution witness, Ishtiaq Ahmed. At the previous hearing, the accountability judge had reserved his verdict on an application filed by two co-accused seeking acquittal in the case. Naeem Mehmood and Mansoor Rizvi, who are directors of Dar’s companies, had filed the application requesting the judge to exonerate them from all charges for want of evidence. Qazi Misbah, the counsel for the two co-accused, contended the prosecution has failed to provide compelling evidence to prove the allegations leveled against his clients.
