Participation of Pakistani fighters in Brave 17 MMA a good omen: Salman Iqbal

KARACHI: Chairman Brave Pakistan Salman Iqbal on Wednesday termed the participation of six Pakistani fighters in first-ever international mixed martial arts (MMA) event Brave 17 “a good omen for future of sports in Pakistan”.

Speaking exclusively to ARY News, President and CEO ARY Digital Network Salman Iqbal said that he will continue to work for promotion of sports in the country and give the Pakistani sportsmen opportunities they crave for showcasing their talents.

“We are trying to bring MMA events to Karachi and Islamabad so more and more people can watch and participate in the event,” said Salman Iqbal.

Salman Iqbal, who also owns Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Karachi Kings, maintained that, in the past, security situation didn’t allow such events to be take place in Pakistan but now, with peace restored, even PSL matches are being played in the country.

“When Pakistani and Muslim sportsmen get opportunities to showcase their skills before the world, they help better the image of Pakistan and Muslim community all over the world,” said Salman Iqbal.

It is pertinent to note here that earlier this month, the fastest growing mixed martial arts organisation in the world, Brave Combat Federation entered into a partnership with ARY Digital Network, House of Rockville Pvt Ltd and MRG Pvt Ltd to form the company Brave Pakistan Pvt Ltd.

Salman Iqbal was elected as the Chairman of the Board of Brave Pakistan Pvt Ltd and Abrar Ali Khan from Rockville holds the role of the CEO.

The initiative by Salman Iqbal brought Brave Combat Federation to Pakistan marking the first International Mixed Martial Arts event to take place in the nation. Six Pakistani fighters too got the opportunity alongside 14 international fighters to showcase their talent.

The event, held in Lahore’s Nishtar Park Sports Complex on October 27, also become the most broadcasted combat sports event till date in Pakistan receiving global coverage.

India’s coronavirus cases rise by a daily record of 55,078

BENGALURU: India reported another record surge in daily COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the total to 1.64 million, as the government further eases virus curbs in a bid to resuscitate the economy, while also trying to increase testing. Infections jumped by 55,078 in the past 24 hours, while the death toll rose by 779 to 35,747, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on its website. The ministry also said it aimed to raise the country’s capacity to 1 million coronavirus tests per day in the medium term, from a record 600,000 on Friday. The federal government this week announced the reopening of yoga institutes and gymnasiums, and removed restrictions on the movement of people and goods.
