Chief Minister Shah cuts his Islamabad visit short amid tensions

KARACHI: Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah has decided to cut his Islamabad visit short and will return back to Karachi in the wake of the tense situation in the province after Supreme Court verdict in the Asia Bibi case.

Chief Minister of Sindh has contacted with the Director General (DG) Rangers and I.G. Sindh and directed them to restore traffic flow on roads in Sindh province.

According to sources, provincial government has prepared a strategy to end the protest sit-ins in various cities of the province and decided to fully implement the directives of the federal government.

The law and order will be maintained at any cost, the government sources said. The police and other security agencies will ensure protection of life and property of the general public at any cost. The law enforcement agencies will ensure implementation of the Article 144, which has announced to be enforced across the province, officials said.

The contingents of Police and Rangers have been deployed at various spots of protest in Karachi, sources said.

The law enforcers will take action if the protest sit-ins were not ended and the blocked roads not opened for the smooth flow of vehicular traffic, sources said.

Police will initiate action if the traffic not restored tomorrow morning and every effort to block roads will be foiled, sources said.

The police and rangers have been directed to remain alert at roads from the morning of the next day.

Qatar to hike minimum wage ‘by end of year’

DOHA: Qatar could increase the minimum wage for migrant workers by the end of 2018, unions predicted on Monday, as the 2022 World Cup host seeks to push through labour reforms. It would be the first change to the monthly wage since its introduction by the gas-rich Gulf state last November. “By the end of the year we expect a new minimum wage to be set, that’s good news,” said Sharan Burrow, general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation.
