Holding of jirgas in Karachi not a good move, says Murad Shah

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Thursday said that the provincial government was serious to arrest former SSP Malir Rao Anwar to investigate the Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case.

This he said while talking to media at Hindu Gymkhana where he attended NAPA Convocation 2015-17 as chief guest. He was accompanied by Sindh Culture Minister Syed Sardar Shah.

This should be noted here that people of Waziristan’s Mehsud tribe have been holding a jirga in Karachi since the last several days demanding immediate justice in alleged encounter killing of Naqeebullah.

To a question, Murad Shah said that it was quite surprising for him that the people were casting doubts on the sincerity of the Sindh government in arresting the suspended SSP.

“PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had taken notice of Naqeebullah Mahsud’s killing and on his directives inquiry committee was constituted,” he said and added that “the provincial government is in close contact with all the agencies and provincial governments to arrest Rao Anwar and he would be arrested soon.

To another query, the CM said that holding of jirgas in the city and participation of people in them was not a good move. He said that the court should take its notice. “I have also taken its notice,” he said.

Talking about the upcoming cricket even in Karachi, Murad Ali Shah said that he would provide foolproof security to the PSL final match. “I have given them full support,” he said.

To another question, the chief minister said that the performance of NAPA in promoting soft image of the country was quite encouraging. “The promotion of art and music and its classes here is service to the society,” he said.

Murad Ali Shah said that the city of Karachi has seen lawlessness for two decades. Musical shows, literary festivals, theater, plays and such other activities had shied away from Karachi and now they were returning with full vigour and spirit.

“I am thankful to Zia Muhiuddin and his team who established NAPA to further strengthen the performing art.”

He congratulated Zia Muhiuddin for running an academy of performing art and engaging youngesters in healthy activities.

“My government will always be with you in your support whatever you need,” he assured Zia Muhiuddin.

Murad Ali Shah gave away degrees to 74 graduates of different courses, including music, acting and others.

The Sindh CM congratulated senior journalist Wusatullah Khan for qualifying a course from NAPA. “Today Wusatullah Khan has completed his education,” he said in lighter mood.

SFA raids several restaurants in Karachi, imposes fine

KARACHI: The Sindh Food Authority (SFA) on Friday raided several restaurants in city’s North Nazimabad area over unhygienic conditions, ARY News reported. According to the SFA, one of the restaurants was found utilizing the used oil multiple times. The items were also not properly frozen while crockery for serving the food was also not clean. The team imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the restaurant. The SFA team found hygiene standards were sheerly compromised in food making to the core. The food inspectors said they had previously served notices to the food outlets, but the restaurant owners apparently turned a blind eye to it. Raids were also conducted in district Malir and Gulshan-e-Hadeed. Sanitary conditions and lack of fumigation facilities were found at the restaurants in some of the Malir outlets.
